Metabolic Clamp Study in HFD-fed NSG Mice

Investigator Corvera, Silvia
Description These animals have been transplanted with adipocytes differentiated from human
vascular progenitor cells. These adipocytes express thermogenic markers such as
UCP1. The effect of these cells on metabolic parameters and their potential to
mitigate the effects of HFD are investigated. In normal chow-fed mice, implanted
cells enhanced glucose clearance in a glucose tolerance test.

This study is approved for the Metabolism Core of UMass MMPC and will involve 24
mice for body composition, metabolic cage study, and hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic
clamp study. This study will be led by Dr. Randall Friedline and Dr. Hee Joon
Kang.
