Description My project aims to elucidate the role of the mitochondrial sirtuins in
regulating glucose and lipid metabolism. In particular, sirtuin 4 has been shown
to regulate fatty acid oxidation and abnormal sirtuin 4 activity may contribute
to diet-induced obesity. Our preliminary data indicate that sirtuin 4 may also
regulate plasma cholesterol levels. Thus, dysregulated sirtuin 4 activity may
affect the development of obesity and its complications.
