Experiment

pathophysiological effects of arsenic on the metabolism and energy balance of
adult mice
Summary Data Summary
Investigator La Merrill, Michele
Description Arsenic is an environmental toxin that affects many aspects of mammalian
physiology. The exact mechanisms underlying such arsenic effects are mostly
unclear. The aim of this project is to assess the pathophysiological effects of
arsenic on the metabolism and energy balance of adult mice, specifically
assessing the effects on beiging and brown fat activation. To accomplish this
control or Arsenic (300ppb) treated mice will undergo indirect calorimetry at
thermal neutral (30°C), standard vivarium temperature (23°C), and mild to
moderate cold stress (12 and 4°C). Core temperatures will be taken (with a
rectal probe) and body composition assessed by DEXA.
