Experiment

Effect of 2-o-fucosyllactose on open field performance with control or high fat
diet
Summary Data Summary
Investigator Raybould, Helen
Description Milk oligosaccharides, including 2-O-fucosyllactose (2-FL) are naturally evolved
prebiotic substrates that facilitate bifidobacterial enrichment and interaction
with the host. We have evidence to show that prebiotic milk oligosaccharides
will reduce gut and adipose tissue inflammation and reduce body weight gain in
mice on high fat, high energy diets. Male mice ~6 weeks of age are place on
control (RD D12450J) or high fat diet (RD D12451) +/- 2-O-fucosyllactose (10% bw
in diet) for 8 weeks.

Mice, adapted to testing room for 60 min, were placed in the center of a white
plastic box (40 x 40x 40 cm) and were tracked with an overhead camera for 15
min. Distance traveled and time spent in the perimeter (outside 10 cm) vs center
(inside 30 cm) was determined.

Experimental Factor: Drug Administered

 2-Fucosyllactose
2'-Fucosyllactose is an oligosaccharide. It is the most prevalent human milk oligosaccharide (HMO), making up about 30% of all of HMOs.
