Investigation of systemic loss of bone mass following bone fracture in older (1
yo) mice- DEXA analysis with baseline and 3 timepoints post-fracture

Description We will use a total of 16 mice for these studies. Mice from each group will be
fractured, sham-injured, or uninjured controls (n=5-6 mice per group). At each
time point (4 days, 2, 4, and 6 weeks post-fracture), mice
will be individually housed for 24 hours in an isolated, enclosed chamber (16
inch square) designed to evaluate voluntary activity . At each time point (4
days, 2, 4, and 6 weeks post-fracture) mice will be anesthetized and imaged with
DEXA to determine whole-body bone mineral content, bone mineral density, and
body composition. The head and the right (injured) femur will be excluded.
