Experiment

Sable Energy Balance #21809 2/18/15
Summary Data Summary
Investigator McGuinness, Owen
Description Energy expenditure measured by indirect calorimetry in the Promethion by Sable
Systems. Activity, food intake and water intake are also continuously measured.
Measurements were taken for 6 consecutive days.
Running wheels were not present in the cage.
Mice were fed ad libitum. All mice were on Low Fat diet during the first Sable
run. During the second and third Sable runs they were either on Low Fat or High
Fat as indicated in the experimental data.
Water: regular tap water, ad libitum.

Groups:
Male WT (C57BL/6J) mice.
Mice were fed a Low Fat diet (Research Diet - D12450J) or a High Fat Diet
(Research Diets - D12492).

Run 1
Male WT LF: n=16

Run 2 and 3
Male WT LF: n=8
Male WT HF: n=8

Purpose of the experiment: This experiment will determine whether the groups of
mice have different energy expenditure and feeding behaviors.

Applicable Research Areas: Metabolism , Body weight regulation, energy
expenditure, feeding behavior.
