Effect of Mecp2-e1 knockout (model of Rett syndrome) on energy expenditure and
meal patterns in male and female mice
Summary Data Summary
Investigator Yasui, Dag
Description Mutations in MECP2 cause the neurodevelopmental disorder Rett syndrome. The
Yassui/ LaSalle lab has generated a MeCP2-e1 mouse line. These MeCP2-e1
deficient mice developed forelimb stereotypy, hindlimb clasping, excessive
grooming and hypo-activity prior to death between 7 and 31 weeks. Interestingly
the female mice heterozygote (+/-) were found to gain weight at a significantly
greater rate than WT litter mates.

Therefore, we aimed to determine if the heterozygote female (+/-) or hemizygote
male (-/y) demonstrated different energy utilization when compared to littermate
controls (+/+ and +/y, respectively).

Indirect calorimetry measurements were completed over three days and animals
body composition determined by DEXA.
