Experiment

Hyperinsulinemi clamp order #22012 December 2016
Summary Data Summary
Investigator Williams, Ashley
Description Obesity and diabetes are associated with decreased skeletal muscle activity of
carnitine acetyltransferase (CrAT), an enzyme that regulates energy metabolism.
CrAT insufficiency in the skeletal muscle contributes to metabolic dysfunction.
The objective of this research is to determine whether the deletion of CrAT in
the muscle impairs the ability of the muscle to respond to insulin. Results from
this study will enhance our understanding of muscle metabolism, and to identify
potential therapeutic strategies for restoring CrAT function in the context of
aging and disease.
