Experiment

Understanding the effects of prebiotic 2-Fucosyl-Lactose on gut permeability and
plasma LBP
Summary Data Summary
Investigator Mills, David
Description Mice were treated (orally/gavage) for the initial 5 days +/- Bifidobacterium)
and given water or water + 2'fucosyl-lactose (2'FL) in their drinking water for
the entire 15 day duration of the experiment. Mice were then challenged with
either saline or LPS (0.1mg/kg IP) for the final 5 days of the experimental
paradigm.

Name / AbbreviationDescription

Experimental Factor: Bacteria Delivery Route

 Gavage
Gavage refers to supplying a substance by means of a small plastic feeding tube passed through the nose (nasogastric) or mouth (orogastric) into the stomach.

Experimental Factor: Bacteria Dose Units

 CFU
Colony Forming Units

Experimental Factor: Bacteria Introduced

 Bifidobacterium infantis
Bifidobacterium longum subspecies infantis Bifidobacterium is a genus of gram-positive, nonmotile, often branched anaerobic bacteria. They are ubiquitous inhabitants of the gastrointestinal tract, vagina and mouth (B. dentium) of mammals,...

Experimental Factor: Drug Administered

 2-Fucosyllactose
2'-Fucosyllactose is an oligosaccharide. It is the most prevalent human milk oligosaccharide (HMO), making up about 30% of all of HMOs.
 LPS
Lipopolysaccharide - induces bacterial infection
 Saline
