Experiment

Effect of antibiotics on energy expenditure in A/J and C57BL/6J mice fed a low-
or high-fat diet.
Summary Data Summary
Investigator Knotts, Trina
Description In this study, the effect of antibiotic treatments on obesity and glucose
homeostasis will be determined. Mice were maintained on high fat, high energy
diets in two different mouse strains--one obesity-prone (C57Bl/6J) and one
obesity-resistant (A/J). C57Bl/6J and A/J mice were put on semi-purified low
(10%) or high fat (60%) HF diet (Research Diets, D12450J and D12492,
respectively) for 8 weeks. Mice were then provided the antibiotic regimen (water
or cefaperazone) in their drinking water for 4 weeks. Body composition was
assessed by ECHO MRI and energy expenditure and activity by indirect respiratory
calorimetry.
