Experiment

Circulating insulin levels in B6 mice fed high fat diet with different animal
fat composition
Summary Data Summary
Investigator Vahmani, Payam
Description Male C57BL/6J mice at 8 wk old were purchased from Jackson Laboratories and
housed in a conventional animal room at Cole B facility under a controlled
environment (23°C and 12-h light/dark cycle) with free access to diet and water.
After 1 week of acclimation, the mice were divided into nine cages of similar
average body weight (four mice per cage). Each cage were be randomly assigned
for 12 weeks to either a control low fat diet D12450H; 10 kcal% Fat, Research
Diets), a control high fat diet with lard (45 kcal% Fat; D12451 with lard ), or
a high fat diet containing tallow (45 kcal% Fat; D12451 with tallow). Diets were
prepared by Research Diets and were stored at -20 °C until use. Experimental
protocols have been approved by the University of California, Davis Animal Use
and Care Administrative Advisory Committee. The main objective of this study is
to investigate the efffecs of different animal fats (pork vs beef) on obesity,
insulin sensitivity, glucose tolerance, inflammation and gut microbiome in mice
fed high-fat diets.
