Experiment

Energy Balance/SABLE Order#13205 7/22/14
Summary Data Summary
Investigator Winder, Danny
Description Energy expenditure measured by indirect calorimetry in the Promethion by Sable
Systems. Activity, food intake and water intake are also continuously measured.
Measurements were taken for 5 consecutive days.
Running wheels were not present in the cage.
Mice were fed ad libitum.
Water: regular tap water, ad libitum.

Groups:
Male and Female WT (C57BL/6J) mice.
Mice were fed a chow diet (LabDiets 5001).
Experimental mice were stressed, control mice were unstressed. The stress was
caused by confining animals in a tail-vein restraint tube for an hour daily, for
10 days prior to the energy balance run.

Male WT Control Chow: n=8,
Male WT Stressed Chow: n=8,
Female WT Control Chow: n=8,
Female WT Stressed Chow: n=7

Purpose of the experiment: This experiment will determine whether the groups of
mice have different energy expenditure and feeding behaviors.

Applicable Research Areas: Metabolism , Body weight regulation, energy
expenditure, feeding behavior.
