Experiment

Cognitive assessment of c57BL/6 and LDLr -/- mice on a western diet
Summary Data Summary
Investigator Rutledge, John
Description Recent work suggests that diet and its effect on systemic and brain metabolism
impacts cognitive function and predisposition to dementia. We hypothesized that
diet or genetic predisposition to hyperlipidemia perturbs brain metabolism and
induces neuroinflammation that impairs cognitive performance. Therefore we first
aim to determine if and how western diet and/or LDLr-/- influence cognitive
function. C57BL/6 or LDLr-/- mice are subjected to either a Western diet or
control diet starting at 8 weeks of age for 3 months then subjected to morris
water maze and alternating y-maze.

Mice homozygous for the LKLr mutation have elevated cholesterol and TGRL and are
prone to dementia.
