Experiment

Sable Energy Balance # 21814 10/1/15
Summary Data Summary
Investigator McGuinness, Owen
Description Energy expenditure measured by indirect calorimetry in the Promethion by Sable
Systems. Activity, food intake and water intake are also continuously measured.
Measurements were taken for 5 consecutive days.
Running wheels were not present in the cage.
Mice were fed ad libitum.
Water: regular tap water, ad libitum.

The temperature of the cabinets were altered over the course of three weeks as
follows:

Week 1 (10/1/15-10/3/15) No temperature manipulation. Temperature was kept at 23
degrees C.

Week 2 (10/5/15-10/11/15) Temperature was raised to 30 degrees C from 8 AM
10/5/15 to 8 AM 10/6/15. At 8 AM 10/6/15 temperature was dropped back to the
normal temperature of 23 degrees C and kept that way for the rest of the week.

Week 3 (10/12/15-10/16/15) Temperature was dropped to 10 degrees C from 8 AM
10/13/15 to 8 AM 10/14/15. At 8 AM 10/14/15 temperature was raised back to the
normal temperature of 23 degrees C and kept that way for the rest of the week.

The environmental temperature reading is an average of the temperatures over the
course of the experiment.

Groups:
Male WT (C57BL/6J)mice.
Mice were fed a chow diet (HarlanTD7012) or a High Fat Diet (BioServ F3282).
Male WT Chow: n=8,
Male WT HF: n=8,

Purpose of the experiment: This experiment will determine whether the groups of
mice have different energy expenditure and feeding behaviors.

Applicable Research Areas: Metabolism , Body weight regulation, energy
expenditure, feeding behavior.
