Energy Balance/SABLE/Oxymax Max Test Order #12015 2/4/14
Summary Data Summary
Investigator Haldar, Saptarsi
Description Energy expenditure measured by indirect calorimetry in the Promethion by Sable
Systems. Activity, food intake and water intake are also continuously measured.
Measurements were taken for 5 consecutive days.
Running wheels were not present in the cage.
Mice were fed ad libitum.
Water: regular tap water, ad libitum.


The mice also had energy expenditure measured by indirect calorimetry in the
Oxymax by Columbus Instruments. Mice were trained to run on the treadmill by
running them on a treadmill for 10 minutes at 10 m/min 2 to 3 days prior to the
experiment. On the day of the experiment mice were placed in the treadmill
attached to the oxymax. The treadmill was turned off for 30 minutes to take
readings of the animal rested. Mice were then run on a treadmill at gradually
increasing speeds until exhaustion. When the mice became exhausted the treadmill
was turned off and recordings were taken for another 30 minutes. Speeds were
increased by 4 m/min every 3 minutes, with the starting speed set to 10 m/min.

The first run is the Sable run and the second run is the treadmill Oxymax run.

Groups:
Male WT (C57BL/6J) and MTg (C57BL/6-Tg(Ckm-Klf15) mice.
Mice were fed a chow diet (LabDiets 5001).

Purpose of the experiment: This experiment will determine whether the groups of
mice have different energy expenditure, feeding behaviors, and different
exercise capacity.

expenditure, feeding behavior.
