Strain
B6.Cg-Cav1tm1Mls/+

Summary Data Summary
Official Name B6.Cg-Cav1tm1Mls/+
Common Name C57BL/6-Cav1-/+
Description This strain is a heterozygous strain of the original Jax
strain used targeting vector containing a neomycin
resistance gene to disrupt 2.2 Kb of sequence containing
exons 1 and 2. The construct was electroporated into WW6
embryonic stem (ES) cells (75% 129/Sv, 20% C57BL/6J, 5%
SJL). Correctly targeted ES cells were injected into C57BL/6
blastocysts. The resulting chimeric animals were crossed to
C57BL/6J mice for approximately 10 generations. The
laboratory then crossed these mice to a Jackson Laboratory
Albino strain and after subsequent crosses breed out the
Albino mutation. All pups breed with black coat color.
Development Status Phenotyping ongoing
Creation Method knockout
Breeding Type intercross
Phenotype Description Mice that are homozygous for this caveolin, caveolae protein
1 (Cav1) knock-out exhibit exercise intolerance when
challenged, resistant to diet-induced obesity and are
slightly hyperphagic. This mutant mouse strain may be useful
in studies of vesicular and cholesterol trafficking, signal
transduction and tumorigenesis.
